Motus Aftermarket Parts Group, trades in the replacement automotive parts industry, marketing and distributing quality automotive parts or components, DIY, DIFM (do-it-for-me) and leisure travel products. It distributes all leading OE (Original Equipment) brands as genuine replacement parts and offers the customer the option of guaranteed, quality brands. MAP is accountable for the strategy and implementation of the Motus positioning within the aftermarket parts sector and owns well-known brands such as: Midas, Alert Engine Parts, Beekman, Rhinoman, Motolek, Auto Care and Diagnostics, ADCO (Diesel Fuel Injection Specialists), Cluth and Brake Specialists and Ferobrake, Motus Aftermarket Parts Group (MAP) has various sustainability initiatives underway, to not only drive awareness around, but also reduces the impact of its activities on the environment. Additionally, the organisation is committed to many socio-economic development programmes across South Africa.

Operations

The Motus Aftermarket Parts Group serves its chosen customer base from nine strategically situated warehouses throughout the country, including two national warehouses for directly imported product, one in Johannesburg, the other in Durban. The company operates a single real-time information platform with over 700 users through the sales administration and distribution functions. It is the policy of the group to bolt specialist software packages on to its operating system. Warehouse space in excess of 60 000 square metres is used to accommodate 105 000 line items in the various locations. All locally purchased product is delivered directly to the warehouses to minimise handling. The imported product is redistributed to the points of sale, this amounts to over 600 tons of product per month. Inventory is procured and managed through an advanced inventory module which anticipates demand through forecasting. This has resulted in improved availability and a more efficient inventory holding. A sales and delivery tracking system are integrated to accommodate the 11 000 plus invoices that are generated daily. The warehouses accommodate R350 million worth of inventory with very aggressive stock turns putting pressure on time, staff, and management.

Logistics

The measurement of accuracy of delivery fulfilment, tracking and visibility of the sale through the various stages is integral to delivering the required customer service level. In addition, the Motus Aftermarket Parts Group offers a client connectivity which enables customers to place orders electronically, 24 hours a day. Over 300 customers use this facility. The product is delivered to the customer base by a combination of owned delivery fleet and third-party couriers. The owned fleet comprises of over 200 dedicated delivery vehicles, which travel approximately 7 million kilometres per year. All the vehicles are fitted with tracking devices to allow real time customer information. The objective of the Motus Aftermarket Parts Group is to continually improve its logistical proficiency to ensure the requirements of the customer are fulfilled.
